Dr Katherine E Brown

Dr Katherine E BrownBSc (Hons), PhD, C.Psychol, FHEA, HCPC registered Health Psychologist and leads the SASH team.

Katherine has research expertise in health behaviour change and theory-driven intervention design and evaluation. The focus of her research has been adolescent sexual health and young people, including deepening understanding of and working to improve condom and contraceptive use. Other interests include the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and its potential psychosocial impact, and the application of behavioural change approaches to the cultural practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Julie Bayley

Julie BayleyBSc (Hons), MSc, Health Psychology Researcher, HCPC Registered Health Psychologist.

Julie has research expertise in the field of theory based intervention development in teenage sexual health. She is a senior researcher and conducts a range of applied research projects and consultancy work, having published several papers regarding the application of health psychology theory to adolescent contraception use. Julie is currently completing a PhD and training to become a chartered Health Psychologist and is also a Prince 2 certified Practitioner.

Katie Newby

Katie NewbyBSc (Hons), MSc, Research Fellow, HCPC registered Health Psychologist.

Katie's research interests lie predominantly in young adults' sexual and reproductive health. In her current role as a research fellow she conducts a range of applied research projects and consultancy work, incorporating recognised theory and evidence-based intervention development techniques. Katie has published several papers within this area. She is currently completing a PhD.

Alison Baxter

Alison BaxterBSc (Hons), MSc, Research Assistant.

Alison has research expertise in the field of health behaviour change and intervention development in teenage sexual health, and has experience of working with socially excluded groups. She is a senior researcher within the Applied Research Centre in Health and Lifestyle Interventions and conducts a range of applied research projects and consultancy work.

Isher Kehal

Isher KehalBSc (Hons), MSc, Research Assistant.

Isher is a part of several research and consultancy projects which are currently being conducted. Isher has experience in participant recruitment and has managed a range of data collection methods. This includes leading focus groups involving young people discussing sensitive topics, data collection in a school setting, which has enabled her to practice both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Isher has also presented posters at national conferences and has contributed towards several published papers.

Dr Jude Hancock

JudeBSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, C.Psychol, C.Sci, Health Psychologist, AFBPsS.

Jude Hancock completed her PhD in the SASH team at Coventry University between January 2010 and January 2013. Her Director of Studies was Dr Katherine Brown. Jude's thesis title is "Exploration of five condom-related behaviours in the UK: Development and evaluation of an online safer sex intervention." Before joining SASH, Jude worked in the NHS as a researcher and clinician. Since completing her PhD Jude is working as a freelance researcher on a variety of health related projects. Jude also works as an independent rater on dementia clinical trials since 2003.

Professor Louise Wallace


Prof Louise WallaceDirector of the Applied Research Centre in Health & Lifestyle Interventions (ARC-HLI) of which SASH is a sub-group. She conducts work in the field of sexual health and across a range of other research topics including breast feeding, patient safety, and exercise and obesity.
